Arrest warrant dismissed for man in his 30s who only shot women with BB guns “because of the positive response”
A man was caught by the police who shot BB bullets at women on the street because they reacted loudly.

The Iksan Police Station in Jeollabuk-do announced on the 19th that it has booked Mr. A, in his 30s, without detention on charges of special assault and is conducting an investigation.

Mr. A is accused of shooting BB guns into the arms and legs of passers-by while traveling around the Yeongdeung-dong area in Iksan City from last January to early this month.

Since last year, posts about ‘being hit by a BB’ have been posted one after another on social media and online communities in the Iksan area. They complained of similar damage, saying, “While waiting for a signal at an intersection, I felt pain in my calf and when I looked, I realized I had been hit by a BB bullet.” Since the location in question is a place where many teenagers gather, there was some speculation that “it might have been the act of an immature elementary school student,” but the culprit turned out to be an adult male in his mid-30s.

The police received a report that there was a person shooting BB bullets on the street, tracked CCTV footage, and arrested Mr. A. As a result of the police investigation, it was confirmed that Mr. A was hiding in a specific place, such as in a car, and fired a BB gun.

It is said that many of the victims were women. In a police investigation, Mr. A admitted to the crime, saying, “I targeted women because they reacted more strongly than men,” and “I shot them out of revenge because I had been hit with a BB bullet in the past.”

The BB gun used by Mr. A was found to be the size of a rifle and had a long barrel (the long part through which the bullet passes), making it quite powerful. As a result of testing with a firearm confiscated by the police, it was able to penetrate the cardboard from a distance of 15 meters.

The police applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A, but the court reportedly dismissed the warrant on the grounds that “Mr. A admitted to the crime and evidence of the crime was secured.”

The expert predicted that Mr. A would likely be sentenced to prison. Attorney Hannah Jo said, “Even if the gun was fired as a joke, there was intentional assault,” and added, “There is also a case where a person who fired BB bullets from a toy gun several times at a person was sentenced to four months in prison.” He continued, “When there are multiple victims, the punishment will be aggravated because a separate crime is committed against each victim. “There is a possibility that he will be sentenced to prison.”

A police official said, “We have identified about 20 victims so far,” and added, “We believe there may be more victims and are investigating additional crimes.”
